The Delta Delta Chapter of Phi Delta Chi held their first Big/Little Reveal on September 24th. To plan this reveal, our membership committee met to brainstorm ideas, after a couple hours of bouncing around ideas we finally settled. We wanted to make the reveal personal and surprising for our new pledge class, so keeping this in mind we tied together a few of our top ideas. To make it personal and exciting we left it open for families to do as much or as little as they wanted for their new littles. Some families (the alpha class was paired with twins while pledging since Bigs weren’t really feasible), decided to pick a theme for their reveal, we had some families provide their littles with costume pieces to wear on the day of reveal and take family pictures in. Sam Peñalver and Alan Villacampa are twins from the alpha class and they made t-shirts for themselves Sam Peñalver’s twins. Their family theme was Olympian and they wore their t-shirts and accessories to go with their theme. Some families did not want to do costumes and just left secret gifts for their littles throughout the week before reveal to get them excited for the big event. Cheska Rances left her little Carlos Ojeda gifts the week before reveal and also set up a small scavenger hunt on the day of reveal to make his experience extra fun and exciting. On the day of reveal, all of the bigs arrived about an hour early to get everything ready for the littles. Each big made and decorated a sign with their littles name on it. The signs were attached to a part of a giant black sheet. The littles were then lead into the room and instructed to find a sign with their name on it and stand in front of it. Once all of the littles were situated, there was a count down and the giant black sheet was dropped to reveal their bigs that were standing behind it. This was our first big/little reveal as a new chapter of Phi Delta Chi. This event is now part of our tradition as a chapter. There are so many different ways to do a big/little reveal but I think this one fit our chapter best. It gave bigs the freedom to do what they wanted with the reveal and also had the element of surprise that was well received by both the littles and the bigs.
